As it turned out recently, cafes, restaurants and most of the activities are still prohibited during the weekends in Georgia. However, the people who work have exactly only these two days to unwind, change the environment and fill themselves with positive energy for the new week. That is why many citizens have found a new way to spend time with friends. A lot of youngsters have decided to go on picnics in different parks in Tbilisi and enjoy their free time.
So, this time we will introduce you to three picnic places in Tbilisi.
Mziuri is one of the favorite places for everyone in Tbilisi. Renewed spaces and greenery of the park is an amazing option to spend a sunny day with friends.
Although Mziuri is in a quite noisy place in Vake, it is still a relatively cozy and pleasant space. While in the park you can pass by “Cafe Mziuri” get something to eat and drink, relax there or take away and get cozy on a picnic blanket with friends.
At the entrance of the park you will see the characters from Nodar Dumbadze’s book, and in the center of the park there is an amphitheater, where performances, film screenings, concerts and other events are often held.
2. Dedaena park
One more option to spend the sunny days with loved ones is Dedaena Garden by the Dry Bridge. Here you will also find a skate park and meet amazing skaters, skate with them or simply enjoy watching them.
In addition to its greenery, Dedaena Park is also known for being a place of demonstrations at various times and for important rallies for the country. The fact that Georgian is the country’s national language is the result of the rally held in the garden on April 14, 1978. That is why there is a mother language monument in the garden now and April 14 is Mother Language Day.
The Dedaena park often hosted outdoor activities, markets and various cultural events as well. Due to the current corona situation, arranging such gatherings is temporarily limited, but it is still possible to have a good picnic with friends.
PS. Dedaena means mother language in Georgian.
3. Old hippodrome
The old hippodrome on Saburtalo has been the subject of much debate and discussion lately. Most of the loyal guests of the hippodrome are dissatisfied with the planned reconstructions and development in the area. According to the new concept, walking trails, artificial landscaping, cafe, stage, fountain, artificial lake and other similar spaces should be built. However, before the project starts and then ends, part of the hippodrome is still open to picnic-ers. So while you still have time, go visit the place with friends, family or animals, spread a blanket on the grass and enjoy the spring.
Have a nice picnic!
