Khevsureti has few guests in winter, the road is closed and the area is almost cut off from the world for some time. Ardoti is generally a summer village, it does not have many inhabitants, it is a quiet and peaceful place. Guesthouse Ardoti is the only hotel after the villages Shatili and Mutso that offers complete comfort to its visitors with panoramic views, high standards and internet access.
As the hosts, Levan Ardoteli and his family say, Khevsureti people do not like to violate someone else’s personal space and they keep some distance naturally. And while they are not scared by the virus in the mountains, they take all the precautions to create a virus-free environment.
This amazing place is surrounded by mountains, and is looking straight at the Mount Tebulo. It is an indescribable view you must see it with your own eyes. While enjoying the scenery from the balcony, you can enjoy a cup of delicious local herbal tea or relax in a hammock in the yard and meditate. Here, even in the air you can feel the importance of ancient history, peace and serenity.
What is the guest house Ardoti like?
“Our hotel is more like a family, a traditional, Khevsurian family, which welcomes all guests with warmth and love. When we have sunny days, most vacationers spend time in the yard, sometimes they go to the waterfall, sometimes to the Zviadauri castle, the cross of Mother Mary, and many more.
When it is a cloudy, Mount Tebulo also has its white cloudy coat around and hides in the fog. Then we gather around the fireplace, enjoy the mint tea and to tell the old stories about the locals, horse racing, horse of the ghosts, Athengenoba, Torghva and Kopala. We often sing, play and introduce Khevsurian traditions to the guests. I think this is the uniqueness of our hotel. ”
Does arriving in Ardot mean a trip to a Khevsurian family?
“My mother and I are the ones who meet the guests. We have a traditional family, full of warmth, love and support, and our hotel has the same vibe. We always try to make customers feel at home.”
Levan grew up in Ardoti, his last name is Ardoteli and it is probably not surprising that he did not need to think twice about choosing a place to start a business. So when asked how he decided on the place, he was quick to answer:
“I always wanted to be related to Ardoti. Wherever I am somewhere else, I miss this place and I want to be here and here is where my heart is.
I spent my whole childhood here, all the vivid memories I have are related to this place, I have a Khevsurian mother and this place is my home. Our traditions are passed down from generation to generation, and we wanted to share it with others as well. ”
Your business is really necessary for Khevsureti …
“Everything starts with the love of Khevsureti. With our hotel we try to contribute to the development of our region, so that we preserve the traditions and history, so that Khevsureti is not lost over time. Many Khevsurians have returned to their land now and this is the greatest happiness for us.
At the same time we share our stories with a lot of people, show and teach them the love and respect of the mountain. Being here means being connected to the beauty of the nature, travel in time, get into a little fairy tale, dress up in Khevsurian clothes, taste the local, healthy food and you can even organize the horseback ride around the mountains preserved by Kevsuri ancestors.
We create conditions for a lot of people who come to us to relax, unwind. At the same time we try to introduce the region, our traditions, history and spirit, which leaves no one untouched. Watching our guests be happy and excited is the biggest motivator for us.”
What was it like to start a business in Ardoti?
“The biggest difficulty was the construction process. There was no road to our village, it is still a difficult road. The transportation of materials is way too expensive, there are not many people to work on construction and my father and I had to do all the work ourselves. We built both floors with our own hands. At the same time, the initial difficulty was bad electricity, water and telephone connection. However, we managed to solve these problems step by step and now we even have solar panels for electricity.
As for the telephone connection, this problem still exists. However, we have the Internet now and so we have contact with the outside world. If the solution to this problem was up to us, we would not have hesitate to do anything, but as some companies tell us, for them it is not worth installing a communication tower because there are just few people living in the area. We as individuals can do nothing more. But to be honest, this also has a certain charm, at some level you are disconnected from the world and truly rest. ”
Arriving in Ardoti, you can hike around or take a horseback riding tour, learn Khevsurian Khinkali, bake khachapuri in Khevsuri oven or just take photos in Khevsurian traditional clothes.
Just so you know, Ardot is for everyone, especially for people who love the mountains, relaxing and enjoying the beauty of nature. For those who want to travel back in time and feel the charm of the mountain and especially the Khevsureti region.
